Destiny 2, the most disappointing MMORPG in Gaming History …

It feels like the more we talk about Destiny 2, the more and more we begin to unravel just how empty and lifeless this game is. I paid $90 for this title. I stayed up for the midnight release, hoping and praying that the game would live up to the promise of being better than Destiny 1. However, after spending a total of 334 hours played, I have come to the sad conclusion … Destiny 1 (game mechanics wise) is better than Destiny 2, hands down. It kills me to say that, but it’s the truth, and allow me to explain.

No reason to do anything

There is absolutely no incentive to do any activities. Strikes, nightfalls, crucible, public events, hell even the raid are all but pointless to do. There’s no Strike-specific gear you can get from them like in Destiny 1. You get nothing cool from the Prestige Raid like the Hardened Raids back in Destiny 1. The Crucible has no variety like in Destiny 1. Public Events give you no decent rewards like in Destiny 1. A lot of the mechanics that made these events attractive back in Destiny 1 have been completely gutted in this game.

“Vendors” aren’t vendors anymore

No … no they are not. These new “vendors” don’t sell you anything like they did in Destiny 1. Gone are the days when you could buy the gun or armor piece you wanted from the vendors. So, how do we get stuff from these “vendors” now? Oh you know … earn fucking tokens and give them to the “vendors” to boost their reputations. When you fill the rep bar, they give random (shitty) rewards. That. Is. HORRIBLE. You couldn’t have made a more terrible system. Unless you prove me wrong in the next update…

Shaders shaders shaders

I know I’ve spoken about this previously, but it is still an insane move by Bungie and an obviously greedy tactic to buy the stupid Bright Engrams. In Destiny 2, shaders can only be used on one armor piece/weapon and they cost a handful of Glimmer (the game’s in-game currency). The more rare the item, the more the shader will cost to put on. A system, when compared to the shaders from Destiny 1, is completely garbage.

The Meta Reigns Supreme

In Crucible, I never feel like I can use what I want. There’s a clear dominant weapon currently in the game, and I see literally everyone using the same damn weapons again and again. The main guns people use are: Better Devils, Origin Story, Nameless Nemesis, any auto rifle with a Rate of Fire over 450, and three-round-burst sidearms. That’s it, and it gets worse during Trials of the Nine, because you have no other option. You have to use these guns, or you will lose.

Trials of the NO

Trials of Osiris is an activity in Destiny 1 that I never really got into. Mostly because I’m actual trash at competitive games. However, this time around, I decided to give it another shot and see how it was. After completing it (not getting flawless), I was so disappointed, that I had no incentive or reason to try again for flawless. Compared to Destiny 1 (again) these new guns look terrible, and with no random rolls, I don’t feel like I got anything special. Especially when I hear my friends telling me that the gun I got was shit. Fuck Trials.

Rest in Peace Random Rolls

What made guns in Destiny 1 special was their random rolls on weapons. It made you want to keep trying until you got the perfect gun. When you did, you felt truly accomplished, and you felt like you had something no one else could get (or have a hard time getting). However, with that system removed, there’s nothing special with any weapon you have. You most likely have a gun that everyone else has. You aren’t special in any way. You’re just like everyone else. Fucking awful.

XP Controversy

I’m sure most of you have heard about this debacle, but for those of you who haven’t, I’ll explain how it went down. It was found by a Reddit user that Destiny 2’s XP system has been giving it’s players false information regarding their XP earnings. When you complete activities, you get a specific XP amount. However, as you continue doing more activities, your XP earnings begin decreasing drastically. If you earn 750 XP from completing an event, that is actually a false number. Instead, you really receive about 1/5 of that. While Bungie said they fixed this issue, that was a lie. Instead of fixing the issue, they just increased the XP Bar limit from 0 – 80,000 XP to 0 – 160,000 XP. While they did stop making us lose XP earnings, they also still made it take longer for players to earn XP from doing activities. They say now that they’re still working on this, but after dealing with this game for over a month, I have no hopes anymore.

The Sad Curse of Osiris

The news is already out on how lifeless the Curse of Osiris DLC is going to be. IGN talking about how little there is to do on Mercury and even the admittedly most disappointing live stream by Bungie. There is no hope for the DLC, that’s just fact. The map of Mercury is small, the Infinite Forest is bland, the story is short, the weapons are lack luster, and the raid (for some fucking reason) has us back on the Leviathan. Yes … because we all know we want to go back to that piece of shit. Jesus … typing this is making me so sad.

In Conclusion

Don’t buy Destiny 2 … don’t. It pains me to say that, but it’s the truth. This game was a colossal disappointment at launch, and I don’t think it’s going to get any better as the days go on. Supposedly there is a big update coming in early 2018 that’ll “fix Destiny 2”, but I’ve given up on Bungie at this point. They’ve given me little to no reason to trust them on anything they say. It is a shame what this game has become, and at this point, we need a new MMO to come out that can completely blow Destiny 2 out of the water. Make Destiny 2 look like absolute shit and dominate all MMOs on consoles, and I really think Monster Hunter World could have the chance to make that a reality. I don’t know, we’ll see. We can only hope at this point.

EA is in Big Trouble …

EA is in Big Trouble …

Some advice for you Disney, cut off ties with Electronic Arts right now. Do it before the law suits and nationwide bans start going crazy, because after today, EA’s house of cards are going to begin falling apart. As of recently, the state of Hawaii have declared Loot Crates in Battlefront 2 (by law) a form of illegal gambling targeted at minors, and are demanding for the regulation or removal of the games from store shelves. Belgium, Sweden, and Australia are still investigating on the matter, but there’s no doubt in my mind that they’ll officially consider them gambling.

This is another major victory for gamers demanding for the removal of micro-transactions from full priced $60 games. Since EA made that shady response to one of the criticisms of their game, all hell has broken loose. With this recent event, almost every single company involved in Loot Boxes have gone completely radio silent. Companies such as Blizzard, Sledgehammer, and Activision. After Battlefront 2, investigations are being made on other AAA titles such as Overwatch, Call of Duty WW2, Need for Speed, Shadow of War, etc.

This is a step in the right direction for the Gaming Industry. However, we’ve got to keep pushing and demanding for the removal of greedy practices in our games. When we pay full price for a game, we should expect to have bought the full game. Not have bought half the game with the rest locked behind pay-walls. This is not how gaming should be, and we should work towards changing that. This could be the beginning of the end for bad gambling mechanics in gaming, but have to keep fighting.

Hawaii’s Response to Battlefront 2:

So DICE turned off loot boxes, but…

So DICE turned off loot boxes, but…

While this seems like a major victory for us, it feels like we’ve merely won the battle, not the war. As of last night, DICE has finally delivered to us the news we had all been waiting and begging for. They have turned off micro-transactions and loot boxes (for now), and have tied progression to gameplay versus the former loot box system. Again, this is some excited news without a doubt. However, we shouldn’t get too excited, because this recent message does come with some negatives.

One of the more important parts is this sentence here, “The ability to purchase crystals in-game will become available at a later date, only after we’ve made changes to the game.” Now this could mean one of two things. Either they’ve decided to change the contents of loot boxes cosmetic only, they plan on keeping them in their and having them only be purchased through crystals and not credits, or both. Again, like many of their previous responses to these questions, it seems very vague as to what will happen when the crystals return.

This may be the start of a new hope, but I fear it won’t be long before the empire strikes back … I’ll be here all week. Jokes aside, I do feel this is a major victory for us, but sadly, this war is far from over. I want to believe this statement. I want to trust DICE and EA on this recent move, but like Palpatine once said,

Beings believe what you tell them. They never check, they never ask, they never think. Tell them the state is menaced by quadrillions of battle droids, and they will not count. Tell them you can save them, and they will never ask—from what, from whom? Just say tyranny, oppression, vague bogeymen that require no analysis. Never specify. Then they look the other way when reality is right in front of them. It’s a conjuring trick. The key is distraction, getting them to watch your other hand. Only single-minded beings don’t join in the shared illusion, and keep watching you too closely. Single-minded beings are dangerous. And they either work for me, or they don’t work at all.

I guess all we can do now is hope. Hope and pray that this will be the beginning of a better, brighter future.

RANT: Do Not Buy Battlefront 2!!

RANT: Do Not Buy Battlefront 2!!

I’ve officially had it with EA and DICE at this point. Words can not even begin to describe my anger and frustration for how much these two have ruined the Battlefront Franchise, a game series that is childhood classic of mine! I’ve loved the Battlefront series since it’s first installment back in 2004. The stories were awesome, the gameplay was amazing, Galactic Conquest is still one of my favorite game modes of all time, the heroes and villains were badass, and space battles were phenomenal. When I heard DICE and EA had begun working on their own version of the series, my inner child sprung free and my mind began running crazy with the idea of DICE making a next-gen Battlefront game!

Then their first game came out, and it was a sad disappointment. While the game was no where near as good as the original, I did enjoy a couple parts here and there. The graphics were beautiful and some gameplay elements were fun. Then they announced their next title, Battlefront 2, and I lost it. Next-gen Clone Wars, an actual campaign, new heroes to fight as, actual space battles, no season pass, and new game modes. I was completely flipping out I was so excitement. However, it didn’t last long before the red flags began appearing as the game drew closer to it’s launch date.

First warning was when I saw their supply drop system in the Beta. Now we all knew this system was coming. It was the price we had to pay in order for there to be no season pass included. I wasn’t even all that mad. As long as it was a fair system for everyone then no big deal … but it wasn’t. It had soon been found that players can very easily make their classes over powered with Gold Star Cards by simply purchasing a bunch of the supply drops to get them quicker. This was the first of many warnings that soon followed.

Now, all heroes and villains are locked behind 20k-60k Credit Paywalls. They were free to everyone during the Beta, but after recent changes, they’ve now been locked off at release … and people are PISSED. That’s not all. They have also added this new currency known as Crystals, a currency only for supply drops that can only be earned by paying real money for them. The prices of these range from $4.99 (for 500 Crystals) to $99.99 (for 12,000 Crystals). This recently spawned a major outcry from fans and critics of the game and has caused EA to make a “response” that reads:

“The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.
As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we’re looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we’ll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.
We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.
Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.”

This post has recently gone down as one of the most down-voted Reddit posts in history with -390k votes (and counting). Just to let you guys know, the second most down-voted Reddit post only has -24k votes. As of right now, no further responses have been seen or heard from EA or DICE about this.

If you ask me though, I’m almost positive DICE has had nothing to do with these recent changes announced by EA. In fact, I think EA is forcing these new, redundant changes onto DICE’s game simply because their greed has no bounds. They a company run by greed and control. They have become a parasite on the Gaming Industry, feeding off the success of amazing game developers before killing their host, and if this game fails at launch due to these recent events, DICE will become EA’s next victim. They will be the next company destroyed by EA in their long hit list of game developers. It’s incredibly sad to think, but we all know it will happen. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but that dreaded day will come soon. When it does, BioWare will be the last man standing.

As for me, I’m officially done with EA and everything they stand for. From this day onward, I will not purchase any future game released by EA. No matter who the developer is. I don’t care anymore. They are company built on lies and greed, and I will not support that shit. Gamers deserve better, and EA is not the way to go. Fuck Electronic Arts and everything they stand for. Goodbye.
